It was twenty years ago … in 1940, when France was invaded by the Nazis. Coming from diverse backgrounds, these young men and women refused suppression and fought against the German occupation. They abandonned their studies and jobs … to become fighters in the shadows, never weakening despite torture, deportation…

When diferent factions of this clandestine organisation came together, they sometimes argued over affinities, ideologies, foreign influences, conundrums of all sorts: how best to reestablish the reality ? Sixty years later the surviving members, first-hand witnesses of the fighting, tell their story…

To honour the Resistance and the memory of their lost companions, here they contribute to the search for truth about these events, with passion but also a strict objectivity. Jean Lapeyre-Mensignac, Pierre Barrère, Charles Franc, Guy Margariti and Jacques Nancy reflect honestly upon significant events, shedding new light on the ‘Grandclément Affair’ and its consequences; about Colonel Bonnier Mission Hypotenuse; about the disappearance of Colonel Camplan as well as the role played by the English Organisation, the SOE.

The Gestapo, with sinister police chief Friedrich Dohse at its head, supported by the French ‘Milice’ and certain collaborators, helped by denunciations, betrayals, confessions under torture, managed to manipulate, hampere and undo the efforts of the Resistance.

It was in these conditions that the Resistance fought… Today they are our Honour, our reclaimed Liberty…
